AAUK Campaigners fear for Gary McKinnon’s mental Health status,
Founder Kevin Healey said, this needs to be halted ASAP, its gone on far too long now, and campaigners want to meet to discuss with the PM and Theresa May that Gary has already been seen and assessed by the top experts in the world of the Autism field,
Earlier today Kevin Healey spoke to Janis Sharp and she said “This Sunday it will be Autism Sunday, Tomorrow is Gary’s Birthday. Next month it will be nine years since Gary was arrested and ten since his alleged crime. Gary has suffered nine years of torment. He has effectively served a longer sentence than most murderers and rapists. The Government should keep its pre-election promises and refuse to extradite my son Gary McKinnon and end his nine year torture”
Kevin said “Gary has already served his sentence already he is under huge amount of anxiety and the Government don’t really take in to account his Autism the amount of stress he is under is appalling to say the least” a person without Autism (neurotypical) would be stressed and under high levels of anxiety but for someone with Asperger it’s magnified x100 times

Autism Campaigner is calling on the Government to take immediate Action For Autism
0
Kevin Healey Stand UP for Autism Campaign National is calling on the new Government to take immediate Action for Autism, and to put Autism on top of the political agenda.
The recent Autism Act has put £500,000 into training for Autism, this however is equivalent to only £1 per Autistic person.
Since his diagnoses 10 years ago Kevin Healey from Stoke On Trent has campaigned for better services and support and believes that people with Autism have been ignored and isolated for far too long.
The new campaign launched last week is aimed at David Cameron and Nick Clegg and is appealing to them to put Autism at the top of the political agenda. Various Autism charities have campaigned in the past and at a recent Autism summit at 10 Downing Street in December last year there was over 40 Autism charities in attendance. However only two people were present with Autism at this meeting. Sarah Brown discussed how Autism charities can work in partnership to better peoples experience with Autism, but the true fact remains that all the Autism charity’s out there have their own personal agenda’s.
Kevin recently wrote to David Cameron and had a reply from a Customer Service Administrator at the Department of Health which stated, ”Thankyou for your letter that has been sent to the David Cameron which has now been forwarded to me, the department is unable to make any commitment regarding future policy on Autism at this early stage”
Kevin has also been denied his voice recently from a certain group for the Autism community on a social networking site, reiterating the point that Autism charities are working on their own agenda and not necessarily to an agenda beneficial to those with Autism.

An autism campaigner and author from Staffordshire is looking for a film director who can help turn his autobiography into a feature film
1An autism campaigner and author from Staffordshire is looking for a film director who can help turn his autobiography into a feature film.
Kevin Healey, who has Asperger’s syndrome, decided to write a book based on his experiences and those of his identical twin brother Shaun, who has autism.
The book, Twin Brothers Worlds Apart, was published 15 months ago with proceeds being split between the charity Kevin founded, Staffordshire Adults Autistic Society (SAAS) and the Autism Research Centre in Cambridge.
Kevin, 35, said: “As a person with autism, I feel that autism has never been portrayed correctly.
“All the autism films show adults on the high functioning end of the spectrum, and adults with genius savant abilities, like Dustin Hoffman in the film the Rain Man.
“My twin can’t communicate – he is locked in a world of his own, he can’t even tell you if he feels ill, or if he is in pain.
“On one occasion we nearly lost my twin with double pneumonia because the health bodies thought and assumed he was OK.
“There have been other instances where people have not accepted my twin because of his condition, maybe because they don’t understand him.
“Even though I love my twin so dearly, I have never been able to communicate with him because he does not understand, and for a twin that is incredibly hard.
“Most twins grow up playing together and enjoy the social aspects of life such as going out, and we have not been able to do this.
“I didn’t get diagnosed until my late 20s and if it was not for Professor Baron-Cohen and his team at the Autism Research Centre, Cambridge, I wouldn’t be writing this today.
“At 26 I was contemplating suicide, because I was not understood or accepted in today’s society.
“People’s attitudes have moved forward slightly in the autism field, but more educating and understanding of the condition needs to be addressed.
“Hopefully this can be achieved with the film.”
Kevin hopes to obtain funding for the film and find actors will play the roles. All the proceeds from the film would go to SAAS.
SAAS aims to provide support to people with autism and Asperger in Staffordshire. It arranges activities and outings for adults the conditions. For more information visit www.saas.uk.com.
Any director interested in making the film should contact the charity on 01782 617088 or email infosaas@ntlworld.com.

UKAF has called for more support for poor families and people with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome in the United Kingdom, particularly during the recession.
Autism campaigners have also asked ITV News, Sky News and BBC News to include issues concerning the disability community, in the forthcoming Leadership Debates on television. Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg will face each other ‘live’ for the first time on TV as they debate the issues.
Ivan Corea of the UK Autism Foundation said: ‘ I have written to Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg as well as Alistair Stewart of ITV News, Adam Boulton of Sky News and David Dimbleby of BBC News urging them to highlight the concerns of the disability community including the concerns of parents, carers, children and adults with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome, in the televised leadership debates during the General Election. They must not forget the vulnerable,’ he said.
There are 8.6 million registered disabled people in the UK, totalling 14% of the population. (DRC) There are over 500,000 people with autism in the United Kingdom – if you add the numbers of parents and carers, you are looking at over a million people touched by autism. They are all voters too.

UKAF urges Government to help poor families with autism in the UK and in Haiti
0UKAF urges Government to help poor families with autism in the UK and in Haiti Hundreds of people joined dignitaries including the Financial Secretary to HM Government, Treasury Minister Stephen Timms, Health Select Committee Member Lee Scott, Redbridge Council Leader Cllr Keith Prince, Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Redbridge Cllr Lambert and Mrs Lambert, CEOs of autism charities and disability organisations to the London Service for Autism Sunday on 14th February at All Saint’s Church in Woodford Wells – in the London Borough of Redbridge. The Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Leader of the Opposition David Cameron, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson, HRH Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, international pop legend Sir Cliff Richard, Children’s Secretary Ed Balls, Former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey were among a host of dignitaries who sent their best wishes for Autism Sunday, now a major worldwide event. Autism Sunday was founded in 2002 Autism Awareness Year by British autism campaigners, Ivan and Charika Corea who are parents and carers of a 14 year old teenager with autism, Charin Corea. What started as a small acorn of an idea in their front room has blossomed into a massive event, observed in many nations. The campaigners initiated the Autism Awareness Campaign in the UK in 2000 and founded a new charity the UK Autism Foundation with a view to lobbying and campaigning on behalf of the poor. Recently Ivan Corea of UKAF presented the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow with an autism awareness ribbon to mark Autism Sunday 2010 at an NAS reception. UKAF joined many charities at the Speaker’s Reception for Autism in parliament. The Speaker John Bercow sent his best wishes for Autism Sunday. In the United States autism campaigners have written to President Barack Obama at the White House urging him to raise more awareness of autism and Asperger’s Syndrome – the US campaign was launched to mark Autism Sunday 2010. The London Service for Autism Sunday also featured a film ‘Thing called Autism,’ by a mother of a 7 year old boy with autism from the US, Janice Cox who has written autism poetry to mark Autism Sunday. ‘Thing called Autism’ was also highlighted by primetime American Television on Autism Sunday. Ivan Corea, co-founder of Autism Sunday was interviewed by Reverend Paul Harcourt at the service, he said: ‘I urge Her Majesty’s Government to reach out and help the poor – there are many more families and people with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome in the United Kingdom who are below the poverty line as a result of the credit crunch and the recession, Some are even facing re-possessions. They need urgent help and better public services in education, health, specialist speech therapy and respite care.’ He added: ‘ I am also urging the Government to help re-build the Autism Clinic in Haiti. The clinic was completely demolished by the earthquake. I have contacted the Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary David Miliband and International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander to spend a fraction of the promised £18 million aid package to Haiti to re-build the clinic. My heart sank when I saw the television news of the disabled dying of starvation on the road and there was no one coming to their aid. I kept thinking what if it was my son who was on that road? I appeal to HM Government not to walk by on the other side and help re-build the Autism Clinic in Haiti.’ Mr. Corea called on local councils to reach out and support parents, carers, children and adults with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome and address issues such as the provision of blue badges to families with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome to adequate respite care. Also present at the Autism Sunday service was Sandy Howarth (Author of “No Matter What” – Autism) Mrs Howarth released a statement after the service:’ Autism Sunday 2010 – marked a very special day of prayer for all people with Autism – to show the love, care and acceptance of the challenges with hope and prayer for the future. I thank Ivan and Charika Corea for making this day possible and for their endless efforts in helping the Autistic community. Autism is a life long condition. I hope that our prayers will be answered in offering each and every individual on the Autistic Spectrum a chance to lead happy and fulfilling lives. Let’s raise the standards for all by offering not just a provision but the necessary provision to help them achieve their true potential.’ http://www.egovmonitor.com/node/33690 UK Autism Foundation Woodford Business Centre 113-115 George Lane South Woodford London E18 1AB United Kingdom Telephone: 020 8989 4810 Fax: 020 8989 5164 E-Mail: ukautismfoundation@hotmail.co.uk Website: http://www.ukautismfoundation.org Charity Registration Number: 1124511
Autism Sunday
0A london MP has helped raise awareness of autism and Asperger’s Syndrome by tabling a special Early Day Motion in the House of Commons. Lee Scott, member for Ilford North, tabled a motion backing Autism Sunday 2010 – an annual ‘day of prayer’ organised to highlight the impact of the conditions on thousands of lives. Mr Scott has helped lead calls for better provision for children with autism and Asperger’s syndrome, alongside the Redbridge-based founders of Autism Sunday i think there should be more MP’s like him - Ivan Corea and Charika Corea. The early day motion reads: “This House welcomes the news that many more Cathedrals, churches and religious organisations of all faiths are marking Autism Sunday 2010 – the International Day of Prayer for Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome on Sunday 14th February 2010. Mr Scott went on to ask the House to note that the event was founded in 2002 by Mr and Mrs Corea who are parents and carers of 14-year-old Charin who has autism and that the couple “initiated the Autism Awareness Campaign UK in 2000 and a new autism charity for a new generation the UK Autism Foundation in 2008 and are campaigning and lobbying hard on behalf of poor families and people with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome. “Autism Sunday started as a small acorn of an idea in their front room and has turned into a massive worldwide event, the first major disability event in the calendar. “(I ask the house to) support the call of autism campaigners for world leaders to speak out on Autism Sunday and provide better public services in education, health, specialist speech therapy and respite care and help and support poor families and people with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome during the recession.” Mr Scott will join other MPs at the London Service for Autism Sunday at All Saint’s Church, Woodford Wells, on Sunday 14th February 2010.
Sarah Brown celebrates work of Autism
0I recently attended the Autism Breakfast reception at Number Garry Mckinnon, the event was put on by Sarah Brown,
I personally think more people should have attended who are on the spectrum, i would like to see charity’s networking but im not sure this would happen, there are three National Charity’s who want to build a ten million pound Autism centre i mentioned this to Sarah, WHY? cant they all network together i guess they all have a different agenda’s , but all want a Autism centre all in the same city, which does not make the slightest sense at all, i think service ussers should be more involved in Autism Charity’s after all they know what is needed and what support they require, i gave Sarah a copy of my book, i did want to talk to Sarah about Gary Mckinnon but there was no time at all as soon as the breakfast reception ended we were spilt into groups, i got up and spoke and addressed all and said how important it was to have a diagnostic service for Adults, and that Adults get IGNORED when it comes to services, also i mentioned the importance of networking with other charity’s, recently i wrote to 40 odd Autism charity’s to ask them to support the Garry Mckinnon campaign only 5 wrote back which i was very disappointed with.
Sarah Brown brought together guests from Autism charities at Downing Street to pool ideas and resources to help their sector.
The Prime Minister’s wife hosted a reception to celebrate the work of the various charities and to look at ways that the sector can work together even more effectively to achieve it’s common aims.
Following the reception, Liz Blackman MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Autism, led a break-out session at which representatives from different charities discussed specific topics relating to Autism.
Subjects included how to reach out to the broader voluntary sector community and how to work together on core messaging regarding stigma and behaviour surrounding Autism.
Sarah Brown also took part in the group discussions, and was joined by Health Minister Phil Hope and Minister for the Third Sector Angela Smith.
Phil Hope spoke to guests about government strategy on autism and the role that government can play whilst Angela Smith emphasized how the third sector can be a bigger advocate for social change
Ivan Corea Said
The UK Autism Foundation joined autism charities at Downing Street. The reception and discussion convened by Sarah Brown was to celebrate the work of the charities in the autism sector and discuss ways that the charity sector can work together to achieve a common aim. Sarah Brown focused on her experience of charitable work and the important role that the third sector can play.
Attending the reception were Phil Hope MP, Minister of State for Care Services at the Department of Health and Minister for the Third Sector, Angela Smith MP.
Ivan Corea of the UK Autism Foundation called for new ways of thinking and new ways of working, where autism is concerned. He also raised many issues concerning parents, carers, children and adults with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome including the problems of obtaining blue badges for parents and carers of children and adults with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
Among those who attended the function was the autism campaigner Kevin Healey, Chair of the Staffordshire Adults Autistic Society. UKAF has called for a national campaign backed by all the autism charities, to celebrate the success of people with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome and using positive role models such as Kevin Healey, Stephen Wiltshire and others. ‘Children and adults with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome also need role models,’ said Ivan Corea.
