Autism Action UK (AAUK) have called for an emergency Urgent meeting, with Home secretary Theresa May and David Cameron,

AAUK Campaigners fear for Gary McKinnon’s mental Health status,

Founder Kevin Healey said, this needs to be halted ASAP, its gone on far too long now, and campaigners want to meet to discuss with the PM and Theresa May that Gary has already been seen and assessed by the top experts in the world of the Autism field,

Earlier today Kevin Healey spoke to Janis Sharp and she said     “This Sunday it will be Autism Sunday, Tomorrow is Gary’s Birthday. Next month it will be nine years since Gary was arrested and ten since his alleged crime. Gary has suffered nine years of torment. He has effectively served a longer sentence than most murderers and rapists. The Government should keep its pre-election promises and refuse to extradite my son Gary McKinnon and end his nine year torture”

Kevin said “Gary has already served his sentence already he is under huge amount of anxiety and the Government don’t really take in to account his Autism the amount of stress he is under is appalling to say the least” a person without Autism (neurotypical) would be stressed and under high levels of anxiety but for someone with Asperger it’s magnified x100 times

Janis Sharp an inspirational Mother Fights on for her son

Janis Sharp

The mother of accused computer hacker Gary McKinnon is to stand against Justice Secretary Jack Straw at the General Election.

Janis Sharp blames Mr Straw, who was Foreign Secretary when Britain’s current extradition treaty was agreed with the United States, for her son’s legal predicament.

Mr McKinnon, 44, from London, is challenging a US bid to extradite him on charges of hacking into highly sensitive military computers.

“(Mr Straw) is personally at least as much to blame for the ongoing legal travesty and betrayal of British sovereignty as any of his Labour Government colleagues,” Ms Sharp said on the Free Gary McKinnon campaign website.

She added: “He was Foreign Secretary at the time of the UK Government’s secret extradition treaty negotiations with the US Government, which resulted in the Extradition Act 2003, which Gary McKinnon and other extradition cases to the USA have fallen foul of.

“The fact that the Gary McKinnon extradition case has exceeded the lifetime of this current Parliament is a scandal which belies any promises of swift or fair justice made by this Labour government.”

Ms Sharp, from Hertfordshire, said she will stand in Mr Straw’s Blackburn constituency as an independent focusing on civil liberties.

Kevin Healey Said-

Gary and his family have gone through enough already this should be halted and stopped, Gary as already served an 8 year sentence of Anxiety, and NO person with Autism should go through this it’s torture, any animal wouldn’t get this sort of treatment the UK Government should be ashamed that they are subjecting this to someone with a Registered disability.

Website Dedicated to Gary Mckinnon created by Kevin Healey

Here is what you can do:

*Write to your Member of Parliament urging your MP to contact Home Secretary Alan Johnson and asking him to act – he has the power to stop the extradition and even Lord Carlisle has said that Gary could be tried in the UK.

*Contact your local media pledging your support and urging local people to sign our online petition.

*Please encourage your friends and networks to sign our petition.

*Urge local charities, voluntary organisations, community organisations to support our online petition.

It is people power that can change things. Gary McKinnon isn’t a terrorist, he is a man with Asperger’s Syndrome who has admitted that he has done wrong by hacking into US computers – he will not be able to cope with the American penal system. This is why we are apealing for Gary to be tried in the UK.

Please come on board with us, we call upon autism charities and other charities in the United Kingdom to support our campaign and to join our online petition as partners.

THE largest adult autism charity in the UK has appealed directly to the Queen to save hacker Gary McKinnon from extradition.

Campaigner Kevin Healey of Staffordshire Adults Autistic Society (SAAS) has also appealed to Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Home Secretary Alan Johnson to halt the move.

The charity has launched an online petition which has been backed by eight other autism charities.

A total of 464 people have signed it so far.

Palmers Green resident Mr McKinnon has been fighting to be tried in this country after the US Government asked for him to be sent for trial in America.

He hacked into 97 American military computers and the Pentagon and Nasa between 2001 and 2002.

He has always admitted deliberately breaching security but said he was looking for evidence of UFOs and was a not a security threat.

Mr McKinnon suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism. People with the condition are often highly intelligent but have difficulty dealing with everyday life and adhering to social norms.

Mr Healey said: “Gary would not be able to cope with been sent to the US, if he his sent his health will seriously deteriorate and he would be at a huge risk from suicide.

“He is no terrorist. He has Asperger’s syndrome. He admits he has done wrong – we maintain that autism is a very complex world and sometimes you have unexplained behaviour.”

Mr McKinnon is also supported by his MP, David Burrowes, former Home Secretary David Blunkett, Mayor of London Boris Johnson and a host of public figures including Sir Bob Geldoff, guitarist Dave Gilmour, Chrissy Hynde, Nick Hornby, Trudie Styler and human rights campaigner Terry Waite.

Appeals have also been sent to US President Barack Obama.

Mr McKinnon’s mother, Janis Sharp has expressed grave concerns about her son’s safety if he were to face life in an American high security jail.

“I fully support Autism SAAS and the petition Kevin Healey has launched to help to keep my son Gary McKinnon in the UK,” she said.

Hacker should not be extradited to the U.S.

0

HUMAN RIGHTS: Re: Peter Cotton’s letter in The Sentinel, January 13.

I agree with Mr Cotton that Gary McKinnon should not be sent to America. I recently spent a day with his mother Janis Sharp outside the Home Office to protest the extradition of Gary to the U.S.

Gary has Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of Autism, and was only looking for evidence of UFO’s when he hacked into the country’s systems using a blank password search. The U.S. says he caused $500,000 worth of damage, but this has never been proved.

Gary’s solicitor, Karen Todner, has been working hard for him and his family. The good news is they have now won a judicial review and a High Court judge will now rule whether it was wrong to allow extradition.

Gary is in a poor state of mental health because of the seven years of stress. The judicial review will now take place in May and this gives him extra time, and support. However, I would still urge people to text GARY to 65000 – an appeal set up by his mother.

It will now be left to the judge to rule whether Alan Johnson, the Home Secretary was right to decide that sending him to the U.S. for trial would breach his human rights.

Sarah Brown celebrates work of Autism

0

I recently attended the Autism Breakfast reception at Number Garry Mckinnon, the event was put on by Sarah Brown,

I personally think more people should have attended who are on the spectrum, i would like to see charity’s networking but im not sure this would happen, there are three National Charity’s who want to build a ten million pound Autism centre i mentioned this to Sarah, WHY? cant they all network together i guess they all have a different agenda’s , but all want a Autism centre all in the same city, which does not make the slightest sense at all, i think service ussers should be more involved in Autism Charity’s after all they know what is needed and what support they require, i gave Sarah a copy of my book, i did want to talk to Sarah about Gary Mckinnon but there was no time at all as soon as the breakfast reception ended we were spilt into groups, i got up and spoke and addressed all and said how important it was to have a diagnostic service for Adults, and that Adults get IGNORED when it comes to services, also i mentioned the importance of networking with other charity’s, recently i wrote to 40 odd Autism charity’s to ask them to support the Garry Mckinnon campaign only 5 wrote back which i was very disappointed with.

Sarah Brown brought together guests from Autism charities at Downing Street to pool ideas and resources to help their sector.

The Prime Minister’s wife hosted a reception to celebrate the work of the various charities and to look at ways that the sector can work together even more effectively to achieve it’s common aims.

Following the reception, Liz Blackman MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Autism, led a break-out session at which representatives from different charities discussed specific topics relating to Autism.

Subjects included how to reach out to the broader voluntary sector community and how to work together on core messaging regarding stigma and behaviour surrounding Autism.

Sarah Brown also took part in the group discussions, and was joined by Health Minister Phil Hope and Minister for the Third Sector Angela Smith.

Phil Hope spoke to guests about government strategy on autism and  the role that government can play whilst Angela Smith emphasized how the third sector can be a bigger advocate for social change

Ivan Corea Said

The UK Autism Foundation joined autism charities at Downing Street. The reception and discussion convened by Sarah Brown was to celebrate the work of the charities in the autism sector and discuss ways that the charity sector can work together to achieve a common aim. Sarah Brown focused on her experience of charitable work and the important role that the third sector can play.

Attending the reception were Phil Hope MP, Minister of State for Care Services at the Department of Health and Minister for the Third Sector, Angela Smith MP.

Ivan Corea of the UK Autism Foundation called for new ways of thinking and new ways of working, where autism is concerned. He also raised many issues concerning parents, carers, children and adults with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome including the problems of obtaining blue badges for parents and carers of children and adults with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.

Among those who attended the function was the autism campaigner Kevin Healey, Chair of the Staffordshire Adults Autistic Society. UKAF has called for a national campaign backed by all the autism charities, to celebrate the success of people with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome and using positive role models such as Kevin Healey, Stephen Wiltshire and others. ‘Children and adults with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome also need role models,’ said Ivan Corea.

Mother of autistic man wanted in the US on computer hacking charges has been sent emails threatening to kill her son

0

Janis Sharp, from Brookmans Park, disclosed that journalists and MPs have also been targeted over their involvement in her high profile campaign to prevent her son Gary McKinnon from being extradited.

In a series of emais, an American known only as Jerry describes Asperger’s sufferer Gary as a “ target”.

He also threatens that “future unpleasantness and the death of annoying MPs and journalists… will have been no accident.”

Janis admitted that receiving the threatening emails had saddened her.

But she vowed: “I refuse to be intimidated and will continue to fight for my son to be tried in the UK.

“If any British person was issuing death threats against American politicians, journalists and members of the public they would probably be charged with terrorism and extradited to America to face a lengthy prison sentence.”

The threats are currently being investigated by the Metropolitan police forces.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary authorities have also been informed after a message was sent to Hertsmere MP James Clappison.

Security at the House of Commons may now be stepped up as a result.

Another prominent MP has also been targeted, along with journalists from three national newspapers.

Det insp Chris Wright, investigating, said: “Hertfordshire Constabulary takes all allegations of crime seriously and this case is no different.

“The origins of these threats are being investigated and we are currently following a number of lines of enquiry into the matter.”

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman added that detectives were “liaising with US law enforcement agencies” after a number of “malicious emails” were sent to various media agencies.

Prosecutors in America allege Gary, 43, caused nearly £500,000 worth of damage to military computers in 2001 and 2002.

If convicted in a US court, he could face up to 60 years in jail.

Gary, of North London, admits hacking but maintains he was looking for evidence of alien life.

A Last plea from (JANIS SHARP) Garry Mckinnons Mother

0
A Last plea from Janis Sharp, for her son Garry, it makes me sick that the UK Goverment are still torturing this family, Iam surprised that Janis has not had a breakdown yet the
amount of stress and anxiety she is under, a constant battle every day, Gary and Janis and Wilson (Gary’s Dad) have already served there sentence! Soon Alan Johnson will make his mind up
whether Gary stays in the land or not, I can not believe one person can have so much power over such a vulnerable man with Asperger Syndrome.
Hi all
I don’t usually do forward emails, but this situation is desperate, and if enough people see this email and send a simple text message, maybe we can make a difference.
The message that follows is from the mother of Gary McKinnon – if you read it you will understand why I am passing it on.  I hope that you will do the same.
Best wishes for 2010
Claire  a twitter campaigner

Hi, I’m writing in relation to the plight of my son Gary McKinnon who has been fighting extradition to America for eight traumatic years.

Despite having done everything I can possibly think of to ensure that Gary is not extradited….I need help…. before it’s too late.

Gary has Asperger’s Syndrome and was searching for information on UFO’s and free energy. When he discovered that there were no passwords or firewalls on thousands of U.S military machines, he left cyber messages telling them their security was extremely poor and almost non-existent. Gary has always been prepared to be tried in Britain, his own country, and to receive an appropriate sentence for what he did - but extradition is totally disproportionate for a non-violent crime and the sixty years maximum sentence that American prosecutors said they would try to attain is terrifying.

Before a court decision or extradition can take place I’m asking people to please help my son Gary McKinnon  by texting the word GARY to 65000 now and asking at least ten other people to do the same . If each person that texts asks at least ten others to do likewise and forwards this email to as many people as they can, then the sheer numbers of people texting and supporting Gary, should ensure that in an election year our government has to listen and that compassion and common sense will prevail.

The Text4Gary campaign is purely to demonstrate to the Government the level of support for Gary to be kept and tried in the U.K.. STD rates apply and no profit is made.

Since the very beginning my campaign to keep my son in the U.K has depended soley on the compassion and good heartedness of people that believe in fighting for Justice.

The Text4Gary campaign is powered by the essence of people power and will end on the 1st February 2010. Your help can save my son Gary’s life.

We are all links in a chain for good and I am so grateful to everyone for their help

Many Thanks & Very Best Wishes

Janis Sharp (Gary McKinnon’s Mum)

from the campaign website…

Time is running out for Gary McKinnon as he nears the end of legal challenges in the UK courts.

The text petition, spearheaded by Janis Sharp, Gary’s mum, and key supporters, urges voters to text the word Gary to 65000, by way of demonstrating their support. (standard rates apply) Evidence of petitioner numbers will be sent on a regular basis to the Home Secretary, as well as to the Conservative & Lib Dem Shadow Home Secretaries in this, an election year.

The ambition is two-fold, first to give voters an opportunity to directly manifest their frustration at a lack of protection for vulnerable UK citizens such as Gary, and second to encourage the main political parties to reform our imbalanced extradition arrangements as part of their manifesto pledges.

Any British Citizen can be Extradited to America without any evidence being presented on a mere suspicion.

THIS HAS TO END

The Campaign to halt Gary’s extradition has been supported by a growing number of people as well as organisations such as the National Autistic Society and Liberty, and Staffordshire adults autistic society.

He is also backed by a wide number of cross-party politicians:

David Cameron MP, Nick Clegg MP, Chris Grayling MP, Chris Huhne MP, James Brokenshire MP, David Burrowes MP, Mayor Boris Johnson, Baroness Sarah Ludford MEP, Keith Vaz MP, Charles Kennedy MP, Sir Menzies Campbell MP, Kate Hoey MP, David Blunkett MP, Andrew MacKinley MP, Lord Carlile QC, Vince Cable MP, Simon Hughes MP, Norman Baker MP, David Davis MP, David Davies MP, Michael Meacher MP, Tim Loughton MP, Peter Kilfoyle MP, Lord Morris of Manchester, Lord Clement-Jones of Clapham, Alan Simpson MP, Tom Watson MP, among others

Extradition of Gary McKinnon ‘breaches Bill of Human Rights for Gary Mckinnon’

0

Extraditing the alleged British computer hacker Gary Mckinnon to America will breach Britain’s 300-year-old Bill of Rights, a top human rights barrister has said today in the telegraph, I’m so shocked to read this today!

“If tried in Britain, where the crime was partly committed, he would in all probability receive a non-custodial sentence, especially since his actions were motivated by an undiagnosed disorder over which he had no control.

Gary  will be a victim of the European Convention, or at least of Parliament’s ignorance in preferring the convention’s loose language to that of its own, more stalwart predecessor.”Mr McKinnon could find out as soon as next week whether the High Court will allow a judicial review of a decision by Alan Johnson, the Home Secretary, to ignore fresh medical reports about the impact of extradition on Mr McKinnon’s health. His mother Janis Sharp told The Daily Telegraph: “I am appalled that our 300-year-old Bill of Rights is being ignored by our government and by the courts.

Janis told the telegraph “Old law is law that has to be honoured, new law is statutes that do not carry the same force or authority, under the Bill of Rights and Magna Carta which is still valid to this day, Gary should not be extradited under any circumstances.Gary faces 10 years per count maximum sentence and there are seven counts although sixty years is the maximum that can be given,If Gary served even half of the proposed sentence he would be in his mid seventies and I would be dead and never see Gary again.”

Gary is already a victim of this, he has not much time left the clock is ticking away! when will Alan Johnson intervene or will he? what about our PM what will he do Professor Baron Cohen who Diagnosed Gary simply said GARY would not cope and he would be at a very high risk of suicide, i ask the question again are all the Autism charity’s across the UK supporting Gary enough?

There are many of campaign’s running on facebook, twitter, and a text campaign, i hope to god all these work, but there is only one man who can stop this before it’s all too late for Gary.

Gary Mckinnon’s Fate lies in the hands of our Goverment

0

As the new year dawns our government have still not decided the fate of Garry Mckinnon, Gary a guy with Asperger syndrome was just looking for UFO evidence, and has been facing 7 years of sheer anxiety, and mental health problems, to face 60 years in an American prison let alone to see is family again, i have read a few articles about some adults with A/S in the American prison’s some have been cruelly tortured, name calling razors put in there shoes, and other horrendous things, what appals me that not many Autism charitys have supported Gary and his family.

Janis an inspirational mother who is fully protecting her son from the American’s when i recently attended the Demo outside the Home office i was pleased to see Nick Clegg supporting Gary and talking on British TV that this should be stopped, alongside the few hand full of MP.s who were there to support Gary.

what saddens me is the response we have not got back from Her majesty the Queen or the US president (no response and no letters) Janis sent a direct letter to the Queen and over 50 bunches of flowers to ask for compassion did Her Majesty acknowledge Janis Sharp?

what will happen when Gary is extradited to the US will he soon be forgotten about, or will he take his own life before, we as people power should stop any of this happening before its all to late for Gary and his family.

Alan Johnson needs to stop this clock now, its gone on far to long and the UK government including the Prime Minster Gordon Brown must put an halt to this.

Disappointing that how much we read in the news how various people get away with murder, rape, mass killing etc and they are sending this vulnerable man with a Registered Disability to the US,

Kevin Speaks to various people on the Blog Talk Radio Autism Show

0

Janice Sharp joins me the Mother of Garry Mckinnon, and Ivan Corea a leading Autism Champion of UKAF the Autism foundation Gary McKinnon, could face extradition from Britain to the United States where he would stand trial for hacking into US government computers and could face a sentence of sixty years (Charged with 7 counts, proposed sentence Ten Years Per Count) Gary has recently been diagnosed as suffering from Lifetime Aspergers Syndrome, which is why his family, friends and supporters around the world are arguing that Gary should be allowed to stay in the U.K and face the courts in the country where the offence, if offence there was, was committed. Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, a world renowned expert on Aspergers and Autism feels strongly that Gary should absolutely not be extradited to the U.S. Professor Tony Atwood another world renowned expert on Aspergers and Autism also feels strongly that Gary should absolutely not be extradited to the U.S. As does Luke Beardon, a lecturer in Autism/Aspergers at Sheffield University and an expert on Aspergers and the law. The United States authorities waited two years to call for Gary’s arrest because of a then unratified, unsigned extradition treaty between the two countries which would make it easier for them to have a British citizen sent for trial in the US. Yet, when he was first arrested in London, Gary was told he would probably get a sentence of community service for his hacking activities. He naively admitted computer misuse before he had engaged a lawyer and without a lawyer even being present. We were still unaware that he had Aspergers Syndrome. Gary gained no leniency for his honesty and on the contrary, his extradition has been relentlessly pursued by the British and American authorities, despite the crown prosecution service (CPS) declining to prosecute Gary in Britain

GARY McKINNON

Gary McKinnon has 28 days to appeal against the High Court decision to extradite him to the United States. The high court decided to uphold a refusal by Keir Starmer, the director of public prosecutions, to sanction a trial in the UK. The home secretary, Alan Johnson, said he would abide by the ruling. “It would be illegal for me to stop the extradition of Gary McKinnon, which the court ruling has made clear.”The Free Gary campaign has won the support of more than 100 MPs and received backing from many UK newspapers including the Daily Mail and celebrities such as as Bob Geldof, Dave Gilmour,Chrissie Hynde, Barry Norman, Jilly Cooper, Nick Hornby and Julie Christie. Many autism charities including (SAAS) Staffordshire Adults Autistic Society, The  UK Autism Foundation, the Autism Trust, the National Autistic Society and others are backing the campaign.

Gary McKinnon’s lawyers have said that extradition arrangements between Britain and the US are imbalanced. Figures released in the House of Commons in Westminster to the Liberal Democrats in response to parliamentary questions reveal that the UK has extradited twice as many criminal suspects to the US as those who have gone the other way.

Harriet Harman recently said:”If he is found guilty, then obviously straight away we will seek for him to serve any prison sentence – if he is sentenced to prison – back in this country,” Harman told BBC1′s Andrew Marr Show. We will hold Ms Harman to her assurances on this matter.

Peter Hain became the first member of the Cabinet to support Gary since the High Court ruling. The Welsh Secretary suggested he would rather the computer hacker were tried in the UK than extradited to America.

The campaign in support of Gary McKinnon is gaining momentum and Gary’s lawyers are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to halt the extradition.
